Technology is Changing the Way a Golf Shop Operates

November 28, 2017

TPC Louisiana's Head Golf Professional Matt Williamson, PGA, gives his thoughts on the influence of technology in golf, and how TPC Louisiana has benefited from it.

Technology is changing golf. Gone are the days GMs thought Excel could effectively run a course by using spreadsheets to track tee times, inventory and sales. A golf course is a business and in order to make sure a business performs well it needs to have the right technology.

At TPC Louisiana, we have benefited tremendously from adding technology to our facility. We are able to operate more efficiently by understanding golf course conditions and revenue reports, and we can provide better customer service through one centralized information center that shows golfer information and notes. No longer do we need to use two to three different applications to retrieve information.

Technology has also helped us to maximize revenue with every tee time sold. We can provide specials to online golfers during off-peak times and lower traffic days, and change an online price with the click of a button. It’s also helped us to train golfers to book in advance. In the past we’ve struggled encouraging golfers to book further than two weeks out, but utilizing a revenue management tool has given us control to increase and decrease tee time rates easily.

Technology helps us understand our business. Without it we wouldn’t have the insight to maximize our revenue, but more importantly, provide the ultimate customer experience.
